Treasures & Children

The blurb says: ‘This simple 6-cube storage solution allows you to display your favourite ornaments with pride.’ I assembled one for Pete’s bedroom. He now has a ‘storage solution’ to display his bits and pieces.

Personal treasures on display.

I’m reading ‘Treasure Island’. I’ve never read it before. The young hero, Jim Hawkins, discovers the map of an island where treasure is buried: ‘…three crosses in red ink – two on the north part of the island, one in the south-west, and beside this last, in the same red ink, …’Bulk of treasure here.’

Hidden treasure to be found.

Many years ago we went with our daughter Jo to her school parents’ evening. Her English teacher said: ‘Jo’s a treasure…’ I made some inappropriate joke about burying her in a field…

Jo… valued, valuable treasure.

Elise was 12 yesterday. Her mum said, ‘Happy 12th Birthday to my fabulous Elise!!!’  Friends said: ‘Happy birthday beautiful girl… gorgeous lady. You are incredible… you look amazing… you rock..’

Elise… fabulous, beautiful, gorgeous, incredible, amazing, rocking treasure.

Charlie was 18 yesterday. His mum wrote: ‘Happy 18th Birthday Charlie Read, you are kind, caring, sensitive as well as bloody argumentative, but you are loved beyond measure by so many people.’

Charlie… kind, caring, sensitive, argumentative, loved treasure.

The BBC reported on recent London shootings: ‘Two children were also injured. A 12-year-old girl sustained a leg injury. She was treated at hospital before being discharged yesterday afternoon. She is expected to make a full recovery. A seven-year-old girl was more seriously injured. She remains in hospital in a stable but life-threatening condition, and our thoughts are with her and her family.’

Nameless girl… seriously injured treasure.

Musing… God describes his people as his ‘treasured possession’… Jesus talks a lot about treasures and says: ‘Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.’

Children, young people… valued, valuable treasures… hidden, to be found… personal, displayed.
