I love reading the Bible… the comfort and encouragement of the old and familiar… the well-worn story understood in a fresh way… the part that I don’t remember reading before.

This morning’s musing: ‘Can the axe boast greater power than the person who uses it? Is the saw greater than the person who saws? Can a rod strike unless a hand moves it? Can a wooden cane walk by itself?’ (Isaiah 10:15)

It’s been a great sporting summer… cricket, rugby, football, motor-racing… this weekend it’s the British Open Golf and the World Athletics Championships…

Last week it was Wimbledon tennis… In post-match interviews players always thank their ‘team’ – coaches, fitness-experts, physios… physical, technical, emotional support …

Sporting contests? The Tory Party leadership contest continues… Individuals needing others’ support…

Can a wooden cane walk by itself?

Lis and her husband David tested positive for Covid. David was admitted to hospital with a chest infection. Yesterday Lis wrote:

‘David came home last evening with a large bag of drugs and a machine to monitor his oxygen level. We are both monitored by the Virtual Covid ward which is brilliant and so supportive. They will check on us every day and we can phone if things are not good?’

Lis writes of their faith: ‘We have had some angel help today… David has felt his Lord so close to him in hospital…’

Today many will be at Sarah’s funeral and thanksgiving services. Individuals will grieve the loss of a wife, mother, daughter, sister, friend… but we shall be together, remembering, caring, supporting…

As a child in Sunday School I was in a play – Jesus’ story of the ‘Great Supper’. The rich refused to come; the poor and the sick were invited… Tony was ‘lame man’, my friend Martin was ‘blind man’, I was ‘deaf man’. We couldn’t get to the party on our own so we helped each other…
