Looking for Ducklings…

Three stories from yesterday:

Looking for Ducklings: I enjoyed hearing of the eight ducklings that fell into a storm drain in Milton Keynes. Local rescue group MK Swan Rescue arrived. They located and rescued four of the ducklings. They then called in Buckinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service who managed to find and get the other four.

Finally, mother duck was reunited with her ducklings in a local river.

Looking for Sight: Saffie Sandford, from Stevenage, has Leber’s Congenital Amaurosis, a rare inherited condition. The family were told that Saffie would be blind by the age of 30 without treatment.

Tests were carried out at Moorfields Eye Hospital; she was treated at Great Ormond Street Hospital with eye gene therapy – the first of its kind. Her mother Lisa says it’s ‘like someone waved a magic wand and restored her sight in the dark.’

Looking for Freedom: April 23rd is St George’s day, with the legend of the dragon that terrorises a village. Having given it their livestock, they start giving the dragon their children. When the princess is chosen as the next offering St. George arrives, kills the dragon, rescues the princess, and frees the village.

In school I would have spun the story out for ten minutes and talked about finding freedom when we identify and fight the evil dragons in our lives.

Looking for God: This morning I read 2 Chronicles 15. The prophet Azariah is talking to good King Asa: ‘God will stick with you as long as you stick with him. If you look for him he will let himself be found; but if you leave him he’ll leave you.’ (The Message)

Musing… looking for the ducklings required effort and patience… looking for Saffie’s sight required the doctors’ skill and expertise… looking for the villagers’ freedom required George’s courage and compassion… we look for things so that we can find them – ducklings, sight, freedom… God can be found – He will let himself be found – if we look for Him.
