Some days I hold strong opinions; I know what I think is right. Other days I’m confused and undecided. Like yesterday…

…Reading ‘Trans Formations’ by Alex Clare-Young.

The cover announces: ‘Situated within the queer paradigm, this book presents the identities, insights and ideas of ten diverse trans and non-binary Christians.’

One reviewer says: ‘…A book that cuts through, with clinical precision, the destructive and oppressive patriarchal theology… with a courageous, compassionate and tender embracing of trans lived experience, and encounters with the mystery and wonders of God…’

Friends have opinions about the LGBTQ+ community… about the Christian community… I’m still reading…

…Reading about controversial comedian, writer and actor Russell Brand…

Famous for his promiscuity, drug use, and provocative behaviour, last year five women accused Brand of rape and sexual assault; investigations are ongoing. Brand has denied all of the allegations.

This year Brand has professed conversion to Christianity. Baptised by Bear Grylls, many church figures have welcomed him. Evangelist J John says: ‘His conversion to Christ is genuine and heaven and earth rejoice over every new believer.’

The victims of Brand’s alleged crimes… joy at his Christian conversion… I’m left pondering.

…The television news is reporting on the US elections… Donald Trump suggesting that Nazi leader Adolf Hitler did good things… Trump and Kamala Harris both seem intent on destroying each other…

…Reading Franklin Graham describing Kamala Harris as ‘almost anti-Christ in her positions’, that 50% of US church leaders plan to support Trump, compared to 24% who support Harris.

…Listening to interviews with ‘ordinary Americans’…reflecting on the division and discord this election is causing…pleased I don’t have to vote…

…Reflecting on this advice for the confused and undecided:

 ‘Whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.’

‘If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.’

  1. I fear, my Friend, that these once United States of America have been weighed and found wanting and will soon go the way of Belshazzar for the same sinful excesses that he so loved . . . as do we.
