What’s It All About?

Burt Bacharach wrote many songs with Hal David. He says that he’s most proud of this one:

What’s it all about, Alfie? Is it just for the moment we live?

Sunday’s TV programme… Daniel started campaigning for a GCSE in British Sign Language (BSL) when he was 12-years-old.

Daniel’s profoundly deaf. He couldn’t understand why students could study French and Spanish, but not a language used by so many deaf people in the UK. Five years on, Daniel’s doing his A-levels. GCSE BSL starts this September.

What’s it all about, Daniel? Raising the profile of BSL.

What’s it all about when you sort it out, Alfie? Are we meant to take more than we give?

A current advertising campaign… Lauren, a local young beauty therapist, is opening her own salon. ‘Lounge Eleven’ will be offering Nails, Brows, Lashes, Waxing, Facials…

She’s recently purchased her own building that friends and family have been renovating.  There’s many congratulations, wishes of good luck, enthusiastic recommendations from delighted customers…

What’s it all about, Lauren? Creating a successful beauty salon!

I know there’s something much more, Something even non-believers can believe in

Yesterday’s conversation… Four years ago Bill was in hospital with sepsis, in an induced coma.

Blue marker-pen indicated where his leg would be amputated. His life was in the balance… He recovered with no amputation… Our friend Ray’s coming out of hospital following Friday’s heart attack…

What’s it all about, Bill? Being grateful for good local hospitals’; being grateful that I’m here.

I believe in love, Alfie, Without true love we just exist, Alfie, Until you find the love you’ve missed you’re nothing, Alfie…

This morning’s musing… on St Paul’s familiar words:

Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonour others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs….

What’s it all about, Malcolm? Discovering, developing, living such selfless, spontaneous, inclusive, all-embracing love.

  1. Daniel is right-sign language should be an option for students who want to-or are required to-learn another language. My son had to have a foreign language to graduate from the university and he struggled with it. Fortunately, they offered sign language. He took it and loved it. 🙂

    1. We know Daniel’s parents and have known Daniel since he was a baby. Together with his mum he has often been on our local news, and sometimes he;s made it to the national news. His actions have had a significant impact!
