Reading through the Bible, the first few weeks were easy – Genesis, Exodus – great narratives – Adam, Noah, Abraham, Joseph, Moses…
Leviticus, Numbers are fascinating but less straightforward. Rules and regulations, sacrifices and sex, health and haircuts… are either avoided, ignored or accepted selectively.
Then, today, in the middle of offerings and vows, tabernacles and altars comes this wonderful blessing:
‘The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make his face shine on you and be gracious to you; the Lord turn his face toward you and give you peace.’
Sometimes I don’t know what to pray for my friends…
Suffolk’s first grey seal colony has become established at Orford Ness over the last three years. More than 130 pups have been born this breeding season.
Glen Pearce, Orford Ness’ Property Operations Manager said: ‘Since the seals’ arrival in 2021, our team of volunteers and staff have monitored the seals from a distance, keeping the growing seal colony a secret.’
Some friends keep secrets… past activities, present conditions. I pray ‘The Lord bless you…’

The latest research on Alzheimer’s disease involves two new drugs that slow cognitive decline, manages Alzheimer’s and keeps sufferers well and stable for much longer.
Consultant neurologist Dr Cath Mummery says, “For the first time, we’ve got drugs that show that you can alter the course of Alzheimer’s disease, and that’s an extraordinary thing.”
Some friends have an Alzheimer’s diagnosis; others care for family members with Alzheimer’s. I pray, ‘The Lord bless you…’

Nick Cave openly discusses the tragic death of his 15-year-old son Arthur in 2015. It’s influenced his writing, music and views on everything…
He says: ‘What I’m trying to present is the idea of grief as a gift. Grief as a positive force. Grief that can become, of we allow it its full expression, a defiant, sometimes mutinous energy…’
Some friends are living with bereavement and grief. Not all can view it with Cave’s positivity. I pray, ‘The Lord bless you…’
Not seen this International version before. Thanks Malcolm. A real blessing amidst all the International Strife which we seem to be eduring

It seems so important to be positive when there is so much negative stuff around – and to pray positive blessing on others

We have recently finished the excellent book and course by Roy Godwin, And I Will Bless Them. Apparently Operation Mobilisation, among other groups, use this course as they reach out with the gospel. Still trying to put it into practice. I’ve already had positive results.

It sounds good Nigel. You must tell me more about it when we chat next. Being a blessing to others – intentionally – is certainly a challenge.
