Lord of all hopefulness…
Be there at our waking, and give us, we pray,
Your bliss in our hearts, Lord, at the break of the day.
I’ve memories of the start of my ‘day’. I’ve spent most of my life working with children in their ‘early morning’; I still know children…
My hope and prayer is that they will know the freshness of the new day, joy of the sunrise, good people to trust in their early hours, and, above all, hopefulness…
Lord of all eagerness…
Be there at our labours, and give us, we pray,
Your strength in our hearts, Lord, at the noon of the day.
The middle of the day, hours of adulthood, working, parenting… plans and dreams, but daily ordinariness… strength, energy and usefulness… That t-shirt’s also in my drawer.
My hope and prayer for all working through their midday is that they will know eagerness, enthusiasm, enjoyment and have physical and mental strength for everything

Be there at our homing, and give us, we pray,
Your love in our hearts, Lord, at the eve of the day.
I guess that’s where I am now – the cool eve of my day – most of the day’s gone… there’s still a bit left… I’m a little worn down but not worn out.
In the day it was about what I did; in the evening it’s about the sort of person I am. The song says ‘kindly, gracious, welcoming, loving…’ I’ll settle for that.
Lord of all gentleness…
Be there at our sleeping, and give us, we pray,
Your peace in our hearts, Lord, at the end of the day.
Each verse reminds us that the Lord has the character and resources for each part of our life’s day; the prayer in each is ‘Be there…’
Friends are facing the end of their day; I think about mine. I pray, with the hymn, for gentleness, calm and peace…

One of the hymns Janet and I choose for our Wedding day. Certain we choose it, if I remember correctly !!! partly for the words in the hymn, as you have emphasised, and that the different parts of the Day would echo our time together. I suspect like everyone, our Day so far has not always run smoothly in some areas, but no complaints !! ( if that does not sound unfair ) we continue with our journey through the day in our Fathers hands.
