If I Only Had Time

Yesterday we had a lovely day out in Buxton, enjoying the ‘The Buxton Crescent experience tour’. One of the first purpose-built hotels in the country, it was built by the fifth Duke of Devonshire in the 1780s, establishing Buxton as a fashionable Georgian spa town…

We visited a wonderful bookshop and browsed… I finished reading Margaret Atwood’s ‘The Handmaid’s Tale’… we had a lovely meal out… it was a good day.

Thinking about returning to Lowestoft today… reflecting on next week… things to do, people to see, spring jobs in the garden… I remembered the old song: ‘If I only had time’.

So much to do
If I only had time…

Mum used to say ‘One day more, one day less’… implying that God’s given me today – but my remaining life’s one day shorter…

There’s so much still to learn… yesterday I was thinking history… Mary Queen of Scots visiting Buxton… glancing at a book about the Mayflower and the Pilgrim Fathers… today’s the anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic… interesting stories I know so little about.

There are so many lovely, good people… life stories to appreciate… fascinating folks to understand… laugh with, cry with… allowing them to change me to be more empathetic, more compassionate…

Time like the wind
Goes a-hurrying by
And the hours just fly…

Resolving ‘If I only had time’?

Value each day. Know myself – my responsibilities, strengths, limits… be grateful for,  make the most of opportunities… be willing to change… constantly ask how I can be my best.

Prioritise well. So much I could do… I take responsibility for each day… seek wisdom to use it well. Thank God for the good… apologise for my mistakes and learn from them.

See God each day. This morning I finished reading ‘Job’… Having suffered terribly, asked unanswered questions, Job’s confronted by God… Job says ‘my ears have heard of you, but now my eyes have seen you…’ Seeing my God in each day is enough.
