It All Takes Time

The new Lowestoft bridge is finally taking shape.

This third crossing, across Lake Lothing, was discussed many years ago. Local people have been campaigning for it for decades. Plans were first approved in 2015 and construction on the Gull Wing bridge began in 2021.

Earlier this year this 380-tonne bridge section arrived from Belgium; last weekend it was moved into its final position.

It’s coming, but it’s taken its time.

Yesterday Rishi Sunak was declared leader of the Conservative party; the task he faces is huge…

…international challenges – particularly regarding the support of Ukraine… issues related to the national economy – energy prices, workers striking over pay… the National Health Service is underfunded and under resourced…

He’ll seek to restore national confidence in the government, unify the Conservatives, pacify the opposition and counter calls for a general election.

No guaranteed success or quick fixes. This will all take time.

Yesterday we visited Felbrigg Hall in Norfolk. We enjoyed the gardens, autumnal colours, woodland walks… We watched parents doing parenting well. Parents, children and families talking, listening, eating, doing, enjoying each other’s’ company.

We chatted to one family. A young daughter was fascinated by the toadstools and fungi. Mum was talking to her; they were discovering together. Daughter had Mum’s phone and was carefully taking pictures. We looked at the picture of daughter’s ‘favourite toadstool’.

Parenting’s a joy, a responsibility… but it takes time… a life-time.

This morning I read the words that we often read at Christmas:

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.

…Musing again on… life and light… clarity yet mystery… a God with an eternal plan… that all takes time.
