God In My Living – Everything

God in my living, there in my breathing
God in my waking, God in my sleeping
God in my resting, there in my working
God in my thinking, God in my speaking

Christian music can contain grand worship, express a unifying common purpose, declare a personal expression of faith, hope and love… taking on different forms and fulfil different purposes… involving child-like simplicity or deep complexity

This Brian Doerksen song reminds us that Christian faith is all encompassing, it’s not a part time hobby that I allocate a few hours to, a feeling reserved for when I’m in the mood. God isn’t just there when it suits me or when it’s convenient  God is there in all aspects of my life.

God in my hoping, there in my dreaming
God in my watching, God in my waiting
God in my laughing, there in my weeping
God in my hurting, God in my healing

Yesterday talked to a number of older gents at Men’s Shed. Mike was talking about buying treats for his grandchildren; Mick was despairing of Norwich City football; Bill told me of his son going to the Philippines to get engaged; Trevor and I have a mutual friend who is very unwell in a care home; Eric’s wife had died suddenly, unexpectedly last Saturday…

My God is present in family life, football, marriage, sickness, death… He’s there in celebration and suffering, joy and grief. He’s present, involved in  and concerned about everything.

Christ in me, Christ in me
Christ in me, the hope of glory
You are everything

Today I’m conscious of my ever present God. My life is constantly changing – health, family situation, friends; events come and go, my fears and joys change.

Musing on my memories of the past and hopes and dreams of the future I pray, inviting my God again to travel with me, giving purpose and direction, in everything.

Be my everything, be my everything
Be my everything, be my everything
