The Family of Man

We used to sing about ‘The Family of Man’ in school… Living in rural Suffolk I sometimes forget the diversity of human life. Visiting London and Paris last week, reading about Elizabeth Elliot in the Ecuador jungle reminded me of ethnic diversity… and religious diversity…

The family of man… religious diversity… Musing…

I met Charlie last night. We chatted about faith… He’s a young man with a young family who’s come to Christian faith in recent years. He hasn’t lost his faith, but since lockdown he hasn’t returned to church…

Earlier in the day at Men’s Shed I chatted to a number of older gents…

Mark’s been a Quaker for many years. He goes each Sunday to the Meeting Hall. His wife’s the leader of the local group. He was talking about returning to meeting together since lockdown…

Brian was brought up an Anglican; now he’s a very devout practicing Pagan. He was telling me more about his faith and spiritual practices… meditating with a local group of pagans… winter and summer solstice ceremonies…

Keith’s wife has recently become a Jehovah’s Witness. Keith witnessed her baptism (in  a jacuzzi belonging to one of their elders). He doesn’t share her faith, but is very happy for her – because it makes her happy.

I’ve just had breakfast with Jack. Jack’s been a committed Christian for many years. His God is always part of his conversation, the way he views his family and his life. With his wife he goes to church twice each Sunday…

The family of man… religious diversity… Musing

  1. I deeply respect those who think differently to me… with Christian faith, with other faith, with no faith. Everybody has something to teach me. I want to understand more and learn more.
  2. I’m even more passionate about and convinced of my Christian faith in the Jesus who said ‘I am the way, the truth and the life.’ I want to understand more, learn more… and live more.
