Origami… One Step At A Time

Eight-year-old grandson Luca came for tea last night. He brought his origami book. Carefully, patiently, he made a whale, a cup, a crown…

Like Lego models, a recipe or flat-pack furniture… you get there one instruction, one diagram, one step at a time.

A group of us last night were talking about living life one instruction, one mistake, one success, one day, one step at a time…

Ross, a recovering addict, lived at Hope House, local accommodation for homeless men. Yesterday they posted:

‘Ross who came to us in February was sofa surfing and in his own words was “ broken “ and feeling hopeless. He came to Hope House… Ross has now successfully moved into his own property and will now begin a new chapter on his recovery journey.

Ross who came… as an atheist also found faith in Hope House and began a journey as a Christian along with getting baptised at London Road Baptist Church .

One step at a time.

Early steps are important… This morning I read John14 – and recited the old King James 1611 version that I haven’t read for 60 years: ‘Let not your hearts be troubled; ye believe in God, believe also in me…’

I remember perfectly something from 60 years ago, but what happened yesterday….? Early steps…

Some steps are difficult… Last night we were saying how active people find it difficult to stop doing… and talkative people find it difficult to stop speaking.

Stillness and listening may seem to be passive, but sometimes require effort. Difficult steps…

Some steps are helped by an expert/teacher

Musing… John13… Jesus: ‘Now that I, your Lord and teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash one another’s feet. I have set you an example…

…Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another.’

Luca’s origami… Ross’s recovery… early steps, difficult steps, following an example… one step at a time.

  1. Reminded me of the childrens song, and no doubt it did yourself also ?

One more step along the world / road I go
From the old things to the new
keep me travelling along with you.

Made me think also, whatever our age, we need to take the Right step at the Right time. A challenge sometime ?
