Slipping through my fingers

Yesterday I mentioned this Abba song. Bjorn and Agnetha’s daughter Linda was seven and starting school.

Schoolbag in hand, she leaves home in the early morning
Waving goodbye with an absent-minded smile
I watch her go with a surge of that well-known sadness
And I have to sit down for a while

School-daughter-stories from yesterday:

Emma’s breakfast conversation with her daughters:
Emma: Chloe (younger sister) could watch Star Wars because it’s a PG.
Lucy (older sister): Not the 3rd one though because it’s a 12 and quite violent.
Chloe: I’m quite violent. But Ryan at school is more violent. He kicked me in the
stomach once.

Lucy: Yes but would he chop your head off with a laser if someone told him too?
Chloe: We’re not allowed to take things into school

Megan’s been unhappy at school recently. Charlotte (Mum) writes:‘School have taken Megan’s feeling seriously and are giving her support each day for a while. She was very grown up and wrote a letter (which made me cry) unfortunately there’s more than one child involved so tricky to tackle. Thank you everyone for your love and support!’

Naomi’s been unwell for some time. Peter (Dad) writes: Naomi’s pain is going to be an ongoing issue for the next few months/years and so we continue to pray for healing, as well as perseverance and continued trust in the Lord… Fortunately, the girls’ school is recent-build and so there are lifts and other facilities enabling Naomi to still get around and attend school as normal… even though she is in a wheelchair.

Children grow up – school, secondary school, leaving home, starting a family…

Slipping through my fingers all the time
I try to capture every minute
The feeling in it
Slipping through my fingers all the time

There’s a time for everything… a time to weep and a time to laugh… As time slips through our fingers we treasure and thank God for good times; we love, support and pray through tough times.
