Remembering, Rejoicing, Recognising…

Dolly Parton: Yesterday we learnt of Dolly Parton’s death.

Remembering her story… her large family, her country home, her marriage, her rise to fame… her songs, her performances, her song-writing…

Rejoicing in her achievements as a singer, and songwriter… all that was good in her character, her example, the legacy that she’s left…

Recognising her skill as a songwriter… her understanding of love and heartbreak, confronting and conquering adversity… her philanthropy… her library programme, gifting more than 300 million children’s books…

Grace Matthews: On Sunday nineteen-year-old Grace Matthews from Norwich won the TV show ‘The Piano’.

Remembering that when she was four years old Grace contracted meningitis and meningococcal septicaemia… having all her fingers amputated, losing her lower legs…

Rejoicing in her musicianship, her skill as a pianist, the pleasure she brings to her audience… her courage, resilience, determination…

Recognising ‘Amazing Grace’… her inspirational example… showing how life’s tragedies can be turned around, dreams can become realities, the apparently impossible can become achievable.

Nick Webb: Our friend Nick Webb, has been named ‘Wedding Celebrant of the Year’ in recent Awards.

Remembering Nick’s excellent wedding ceremonies… the personal care he’s shown couples… delighted families that nominated Nick

Rejoicing in Nick’s bespoke wedding ceremonies… saying he was ‘genuinely honoured and incredibly proud’… the joy of family and friends

Recognising Nick’s gifts and achievements… ‘Being a celebrant is about so much more than delivering a ceremony; it’s about getting to know people, listening to their stories and creating something that feels truly personal to them.’

Me: Musing on Dolly, Grace, Nick… their achievements, example, inspiration…

…Remembering my story. Pausing to look back… family, friends, events… work, church, music…

…Rejoicing in so many good things, good people, good experiences… enjoying faith, hope love… the health, the happiness, the home of today

…Recognising that the future is unknown and uncertain – for myself and those that I love… I continue to trust God… Amazing Grace lyrics: ‘‘Twas grace that brought me safe thus far, and grace will lead me home.’
