One Thing Leads To Another

I’ve enjoyed reading ‘Proverbs’ in my Bible. Sayings about life and death, wisdom and folly, friends and enemies, wives and children have made me smile and think. The one that’s amused me this morning is:

‘As the beating of cream yields butter and striking the nose causes bleeding, so stirring up anger causes quarrels.’

It’s the principle of cause and effect, how one thing leads to another.

On the news this week…

Prince Harry’s visits the UK… There are concerns about security, his wife and children may come, reconciliation with his wider family is possible… One thing leads to another.

President Trump gets involved in the World Cup… Conversations occur behind the scenes, rules are changed, other nations are outraged… One thing leads to another.

Nigel Farage’s financial affairs are inspected… He pleads innocence, resigns as an MP, will stand in the by-election; other political party leaders respond, boycotting the by-election. One thing leads to another.

I read ‘The Rosary’, a dated but delightful novel, published in 1909:

Jane is a strong, independent, thirty-year-old woman. Garth is a handsome, beauty loving, twenty-seven-year-old artist. Garth falls in love with Jane and asks her to marry him; Jane loves Garth but, believing that she is too plain for the marriage to last, she turns him down. Garth feels rejected and walks away.

Then Garth is blinded in a terrible accident. Can they get back together? One thing leads to another…

Last night our church ‘home group’ reflected on Minister-Lou’s Sunday sermon about salt and light. ‘You are the salt of the earth… You are the light of the world.’ Jesus’ followers make a positive distinctive difference. One thing leads to another. If you’re salt you makes things better; if you’re light you makes things visible.

Jesus says: ‘Let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father.’

One thing leads to another – Good deeds shine… others see… heavenly Father praised.
