Listen To The Word Of The Lord

Sometimes my life and my mind get clogged up with events, activities, conversations, promises, people, responsibilities and general stuff of life. When I don’t have the desire or capacity to take on anymore, I appreciate something simple that can speak to my heart with gentleness and clarity… like this song by the Gettys.

Listen to the Word of the Lord
Listen to the Word of the Lord
Great and wise, good and kind
Listen to the Word of the Lord

Learn to know the sound of His voice
Learn to know the sound of His voice
Strong and sure, calm and pure
Learn to know the sound of His voice

Hear and believe Him, trust and obey
Walk in His wisdom every day

I’ve been reading Deuteronomy this morning. People from a different age and a different culture are listening to their God who says:

‘Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts.’ (6:4-6)

Know therefore that the Lord your God is God; he is the faithful God, keeping his covenant of love to a thousand generations of those who love him and keep his commandments. (7:9)

Lean on every promise of God
Lean on every promise of God
Tried and true, holding you
Lean on every promise of God

Jesus is the Word of the Lord
Jesus is the Word of the Lord
Great and wise, good and kind
Jesus is the Word of the Lord

Listen to the Word of the Lord

And so today, in all of life’s busyness, I seek to be still and listen to my God… in my noisy world to be better at recognising his gentle voice… and in times of uncertainty and confusion to trust Him to guide me and hold me.

Hear and believe Him, trust and obey
Walk in His wisdom every day
