Lessons from Mum-Fit

One of the stories that caught my attention this week was that of Kat Bradshaw. Kat had had a baby. She wanted to go back to the gym, but discovered that there was nowhere she could get exercise while taking care of her baby.

She decided to do something about it… She’s trained as a pre- and post-natal fitness instructor and personal trainer… She set up Mum-Fit, a gym for mothers and babies.

There was a report on our local TV. A couple of Mums described how they enjoyed exercising with other mums, how much their children loved it. A doctor talked about post-natal depression and the physical, psychological and social benefits of Kat’s gym…

Their website says: ‘Our fitness classes are specifically designed for new Mums and their babies, with exercises that are suitable and effective. At Mum-Fit, we provide an accessible, inclusive and supportive environment where Mums can form connections with others while working on their physical health.’

Christmas is officially over in our house. Yesterday the decorations came down. Today I shall be up in the loft putting away the boxes. It’s as if we’re putting the old year away as the new one begins. I look back on last year with gratitude and many happy memories; I  look forward to the next one with anticipation.

If I face a problem or something needs doing the easy response is to complain that things aren’t as I would like them. Kat Bradshaw didn’t complain or expect someone else to do something. Instead she was proactive, discovering that in solving her problem she was able to help others in a similar position.

At Sunday School we used to sing, ‘There’s a work for Jesus none but you can do.’ This year I shall endeavour to look for my unique opportunities to change things for the better. Perhaps I’m the best person – the only person – to do it. And in solving my problems perhaps I’ll help others solve theirs too.

  1. I like this, Malcolm. Kat was proactive in addressing her concerns, creating an opportunity, not just for herself, but for many other mums in the same situation. As someone wisely said, “Action is the antidote for despair.” Nothing beats positive action–in the right direction–and this makes Kat (and Malcolm’s) commitment to a brighter future inspiring.🤗
