Changing Seasons

It’s been a funny old week weather-wise. There have been sharp frosts, sunshine, strong winds, persistent rain, beautiful rainbows. One thing I love about living in this corner of England is the changing seasons…

Most of the leaves have fallen from the trees… it’s time for winter pruning in the garden… only the most hardy of souls are still swimming in the sea.

Changing seasons… We’re well into Autumn; winter’s fast approaching.

Yesterday’s news was dominated by Chancellor Rachel Reeves budget. Tax rises worth £26billion… a downgrade in the UK’s growth outlook… more than 1.7 million people set to pay more income tax… closing the £40billion gap in the public finances… the mixture of tax and borrowing measures… I quickly got lost…

There were explanations about how the changes will affect working professionals, benefit claimants, families, pensioners, motorists, students, savers… I understood that better.

Changing financial seasons for all.

On our local news… For many years pigeons have been a problem in Norwich Markets. There are forty food stalls… stall holders have complained about the serious public health risk… customers buying and eating food are ducking and screaming because pigeons are flying directly at them…

Yesterday, falconer Mikael ChuFoon came with his Harris’s hawk to the market. He explained: His hawk won’t attack or kill the pigeons but instead instil fear so the birds roost and nest elsewhere.

As I getting older I like change less and less. I know that much change is good, but often I wish that life would stand still.

This morning I read: ‘I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want.’

Changing seasons in my life are inevitable. I’m praying for the spirit that not only accepts changing seasons, but is content in them.
