Lessons About Training

Josh, from the Seagull Theatre, was talking about the difference between acting and performing. At drama school he was trained in acting; rehearsing for a play, the director’s requiring him to act in a particular way. He’s also a children’s entertainer – he performs with his story telling and magic tricks.

I wondered whether teachers in the classroom, or church ministers in the pulpit, perform or act… and if training’s necessary…

Training… to develop performance skills…

Yesterday morning at Men’s Shed I did my annual training for using the workshop machines. Eric and his team, men with significantly more knowledge and skill that I have, showed what to do, and what not to do, emphasising safety and potential danger. They demonstrated, then watched whilst I used the machines. I’m now fully trained!

Yesterday’s local news included Georgia Couzens… Georgia wasn’t ‘sporty’… Her daughter Millie was born in 2015… Millie sadly died in 2016… Georgia ran the 2016 London marathon in memory of Millie… She’d not even run a 5km race before… Georgia continued training, ran more marathons… learnt to swim with her face in the water… completed an Ironman event…

Georgia’s qualified for the World Triathlon Championships… she’s flying out to Australia to represent Team GB.

Training for fitness, to be the best…

This morning I found Stella’s story. She wrote it before her death some years ago. Stella was brought up in Lowestoft, came to faith, attended our church…

‘In 1942 I was called up to go to Letchworth Training Centre (Hertfordshire) to train for war… They were a mixed bunch in the factory I worked in and it was not always easy for a 20 year old girl away from home, family and friends to stand up for the Lord. However the Lord was true to His word, kept me in his love… The three years I was away from home did me good in many ways…’

Training in faith for life…

Musing… ‘lessons about training’ from Josh, Eric, Georgia and Stella.
