Next Page, Next Chapter?

This week I’ve chatted with a number of folks who are starting a new job, a course of hospital treatment, a new term, retirement… Some are eager to discover what’s coming next; others are anxious, anticipating unwelcome change. Some want to stay in the security of where they are; others want to go back to relive good times…

Each must turn the page to the next chapter.

Yesterday’s conversations made me realise how I’m changing… I remained silent, when previously I would have taken the lead… I paused and listened, instead of actively doing stuff… unexpectedly I was asked for, and gave, my opinion or advice.

Perhaps I’m turning the page to my next chapter…

This morning…

…I had a strange dream: I was staying in a hotel. I left my room and was walking down a crowded street. A woman gave me a coat. I couldn’t think clearly. Agitated, I returned to my hotel room. It was occupied. I was alone and further confused. I woke up wondering… Was losing my mind… or was that was a glimpse into my future?

I read Luke 22: Jesus shares his last supper with his disciples; Judas betrays Jesus; Jesus prays in desperation whilst his disciples sleep; He’s arrested; Peter denies knowing Jesus; Jesus is on trial. Jesus’ world’s falling apart. He’s alone, yest remains consistent, true to himself.

This morning I’m resolved to:
Live honestly. I shall be who I am, owning my failures, acknowledging my gifts. I’m not the man I was three chapters ago – or the man I may become in three chapters time.

Live boldly. I turn the page intentionally. I chose to discover whatever the next chapter holds in anticipation and hope, not fear or regret, proud to be me in my unique adventure.

Live lovingly. I remember verses we read on Tuesday night. In this chapter I may have remarkable adventures, or face unimaginable tragedy. If I ‘…do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal.’
