Action’s Required!

On yesterday’s news…

…The Queen Elizabeth Hospital, King’s Lynn, Norfolk, is the worst in the country. League tables of 134 English hospitals have been published. We’ve often heard of QEH’s crumbling building, ceilings held up by thousands of props.

Action’s required! We’re told ‘immediate steps are being taken to address the issues’ including reducing long emergency department wait times, recruiting more specialist consultants, creating an urgent treatment centre, tackling delays of cancer and diagnostic waits, and the plans for a rebuild.  

…Telford’s Exotic Zoo reported: a female casque-headed iguana laid eggs that were put in an incubator. They discovered that the eggs were fertile; there’d been no contact with a male. Eight hatchlings were born. It’s ‘one of the rarest events in the animal kingdom’ called ‘parthenogenesis’: unfertilised eggs create offspring that are identical genetic clones of their mother.

Action was required! The hatchlings were put in the zoo’s reptile nursery. Constant temperature and humidity is maintained. All baby iguanas are healthy.

…At Kirkley and Pakefield football ground: A familiar local story –Charlotte  Robinson, her husband Macaulay and six hundred people watched the football.  The game ended. Charlotte went to the toilet… felt sudden pressure… the urge to push… saw her son’s head. Henry was born. She didn’t know she was pregnant!

Action was required! Someone wrapped the baby in a football shirt… they fetched towels and foil sheets… Macaulay sat down; he doesn’t do blood… an off-duty paramedic helped until an ambulance arrived…

Not in the news… at our house… last night… seven of us reflected on Minister-Lou’s Sunday sermon:

Love isn’t just words or a nice feeling. Action’s required!
