Wallabies, Wedding-Rings and Weetabix

Local news reports two wallaby sightings. On Tuesday one was spotted outside Ilketshall St Andrew, near Bungay. On Wednesday one was seen in Wissett, near Halesworth,

A witness said, “We’ve got quite a few deer around, so I thought I must be mistaken. But then I thought it was a kangaroo… I stood there thinking: ‘Who do I ring to tell them?’ But I thought no one was going to believe me.”

No-one has reported losing a wallaby; no-one has yet caught one.

Our Lowestoft Journal told of the Ciarleglio family, on holiday in Kessingland. Last Saturday, Mrs Ciarleglio lost her sunglasses in the sea; the whole family searched along the beach.

On Sunday Mr Ciarleglio realised that in the commotion he’d lost his two wedding rings. They contacted the ‘National Ring Recovery Service’. On Monday a metal detectorist came; within ten minutes he’d found the rings.

Mrs Ciarleglio said, ‘It was a miraculous series of events and we were delighted to have got them back so quickly.’

I love the Weetabix advert… Britain hasn’t been so great lately because we haven’t been eating enough Weetabix. This ‘amazing discovery’ identifies that where Weetabix eating increases, so do crossword scores, driving test pass rates, and bodybuilders’ performance.

We must share this most urgent need of Weetabix with pothole fixers, VAR operators, and those who park their cars abysmally. It’s clear that many potential recipients will benefit from Weetabix. Weetabix will help get things back on track and make Britain great again!

This morning I read Jesus’ story of the sheep and the goats those who give food to the hungry, and care for the needy are commended…

Perhaps… if the needy and disadvantaged are illusive like the wallaby, or if the task seems impossible, like looking for a wedding ring on a beach, I need to be intentional in seeking them out. And perhaps, as together we learn to truly, actively, care, we shall discover, with the Weetabix, that that’s what will make Britain great again.

  1. Ha! In a time when the world needs all the help it can get, we are fortunate that Britain has the ability to give us another gift: Weetabix!

Thank you for another week of witty daily messages of wisdom, Malcolm!

    1. Although, Karen, it’s not usually high on politicians’ agendas, or there’s lip service without consistent, prioritised action, I agree that we all need to be reminded. I was certainly high on Jesus’ priorities in his words and actions.
