All New, All Change

Yesterday…

…our friend Andy of ‘Read’s Car Maintenance’, who’s serviced our cars for many years,  posted:

‘Tyre sales have become such an integral part of our business, that we have upgraded our tyre machines to the latest lever-less machine and laser balancer. So why not give us a look the next time you require tyres?’

New machines, new technology – all change at Reads Car Maintenance.

…At the Seagull Theatre, Louise, who runs ‘Fabba’, our theatre company for adults with learning disabilities, was telling me about their next show that she’s written: Alice, who was in Wonderland, has grown up and has become a detective. There’s a crime involving the Queen of Hearts…

New show, new performing opportunities for our Fabba friends – all change in the Alice story, changing perceptions of folks with disabilities.

…Lowestoft Foodbank reported on their ‘Three Peaks Challenge’. Fifteen people attempted to climb Ben Nevis, Scarfell Pike and Snowden within 24hrs on 16th May. They were raising money for the Foodbank to continue and develop its work.

New challenges for those taking part, new funds (over £8K raised) for our Foodbank. The lives of those taking part are changed through the experience; the money raised will enable the lives of many living in crisis to be changed.

This morning I remember the old hymn, ‘Abide With Me’ written by Scottish Anglican clergyman Henry Francis Lyte in 1847 as he was dying from tuberculosis. The second verse goes:

Swift to its close ebbs out life’s little day;
Earth’s joys grow dim, its glories pass away;
Change and decay in all around I see—
O Thou who changest not, abide with me.

As I get older more seems to be new; new is seen to be good. More seems to change; the speed of change increases. I’m grateful for a God who doesn’t change.
