Easter’s done for another year.
…There was usual ordinary stuff… gardening, reading, TV… I went with son-Pete to the football, Rachel did a jigsaw puzzle…
…There was church stuff… communion, music, meeting friends… special services for Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, Easter Sunday…
…There was spiritual stuff… reflecting on life’s great themes – death and life, darkness and light, hate and love, despair and hope…
…There was family stuff… giving and receiving presents, Sunday roast dinner, easter egg hunt, sharing news…
Lots of stuff – good stuff, enjoyable meaningful stuff. I sat down last night, watched the news… not so good or enjoyable… and wondered how to make sense of it all…

King Charles has written an Easter message that includes:
‘On Maundy Thursday, Jesus knelt and washed the feet of many of those who would abandon Him. His humble action was a token of His love that knew no bounds or boundaries and is central to Christian belief…
The abiding message of Easter is that God so loved the world — the whole world — that He sent His son to live among us to show us how to love one another, and to lay down His own life for others in a love that proved stronger than death.
There are three virtues that the world still needs — faith, hope and love. “And the greatest of these is love”.’

The King cuts through all of life’s ‘stuff’… events and activities, family and friends, church and tradition, Easter chocolate and rabbits… and brings us back to faith, hope and love – and especially love…
Musing …on dearly loved babies I’ve seen recently, learning to give love from the love they receive …on older friends, with fading bodies and minds, who still need to love and be loved …on The Beatles singing ‘There’s nothing you can do that can’t be done, Nothing you can sing that can’t be sung… All you need is love’
And if The Beatles, King Charles and Jesus say the same thing, then I need to take notice!
Malcolm, your closing line gave me a big smile, thank you!

I pictured the four of them sitting in a room finding something to agree on, Dana. I imagined the conversation and smiled too.

I’m in my 7th decade of life. I’ve loved much of the music if the Beatles since I was 11 or 12 years old. As I got older, however, I felt the need to distinguish much of their music from their over all cultural impact. I still love much of their music. But…
