Running, Dancing, Stopping, Walking

Running: I’m taking part in the human race. Life’s competitive. The pace is set by those living in the fast lane. I must keep up with them… technology, car, home-improvements, recognition, popularity…

I’m running through life. I’m not an ‘also ran’; certainly not a loser! Winning may take time, effort, stamina… There may be a cost to me, to those around me, but it’s worth it. I must achieve success – and be seen to achieve success.

There’s a time for running…

Dancing: Recent with grandson-Luca we’ve discussed ‘Wicked’… the story, the songs… including ‘Dancing Through Life’:

Dancing through life
Skimming the surface
Gliding where turf is smooth
Life’s more painless
For the brainless

‘Dancing Through Life’ is about enjoying life. Life has so many problems and complexities. Sometimes I need to avoid deep thinking and responsibility. I can’t carry the weight of the world on my shoulders. Putting my worries behind me I have fun…

There’s a time for dancing…

Stopping: Some friends, who’ve had their share of life’s running and dancing, have stopped. Some have lost direction and are getting their bearings; some are weary and choosing to rest; others are forced to stop through sickness or circumstances.

My Christian friends quote: ‘Be still, and know that I am God.’ The sheep lies down in the green meadow… the hiker puts down her heavy rucksack… the worker relaxes on his sofa – being home, feeling home.

There’s a time for stopping…

Walking: Today I like the idea of walking through life, progressing steadily, appreciating the scenery. The route may be difficult, or the weather unpredictable but I’m walking with friends. We’re pilgrims, helping, encouraging each other.

This morning I read: ‘I am the Lord your God who… enabled you to walk with heads held high.’ Previously God had said, ‘I will walk among you and be your God.’ I like that.

There’s a time for walking…

Today I’m praying for the wisdom to know when is my time to be dancing, running, stopping and walking…
