Totally Committed

Some days a phrase or idea keeps cropping up…

Yesterday at ‘Music For Wellbeing’ it was Ernie and Diane’s ruby wedding anniversary. Diane has Parkinsons; Ernie’s totally committed to caring for Diane.

We talked football. Ernie’s a Coventry City fan. He’s also a Lowestoft Town season ticket holder. He goes to all of the Lowestoft home games – totally committed to his football.

I popped round to see Karen. Karen talked with warmth, care and humour about her family and many friends; Karen’s totally committed to a whole host of people.

We chatted about Karen’s chemo treatment. Monday is her seventh of eight chemo sessions. She’s looking well and totally committed to recovery from her cancer.

Rachel and I went to our local ‘Ship’ for a meal… Carl and Donna are a young couple who took on the running of The Ship eighteen months ago. Donna’s always cheerful and chatty. Business is going really well. It was a lovely meal.

We reflected on the long hours that they work… totally committed to making the business a success.

We watched the tennis – Brit Jack Draper playing world number one Jannik Sinner. It was a dramatic encounter. Sinner required treatment on his wrist; Draper, had to clean up his own vomit after throwing up.

In a hard fought match both players were totally committed to producing their best tennis; both were totally committed to winning. Sadly, Sinner won.

My old friend Bob sent me an email:

I am not given to thinking about heaven very much. I love life on earth with all its foibles, even its struggles. I lean into Christ’s promise that life can be abundant because of our relationship to Him. One day I will complete my journey in the sure confidence expressed by the apostle Paul in 2 Timothy 1:12 ‘I know whom I have believed and am persuaded that He is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day.’

Bob’s totally committed to the God who’s totally committed to him.
