We Can Work It Out

Resolving Disagreements… The Beatles sung ‘We Can Work It Out’ about two people who had fallen out:

Try to see it my way
Do I have to keep on talking ’til I can’t go on?
While you see it your way
Run the risk of knowing that our love may soon be gone
We can work it out…

Daily Challenges… Our car’s air-conditioning isn’t working. ‘We can work it out,’ said Andrea when I booked the car in. ‘We can work it out’ said Neal the mechanic this morning… I’m confident that by this afternoon they will have worked it out.

When I was teaching we faced daily challenges… How do I motivate Wayne and Sharon to learn their tables? How do I teach Henry VIII in a lively, interesting way? What’s a good book to read with 6C? ‘We can work it out!’ And we did!

Ultimate Sacrifice… Commander-in-Chief, General Montgomery, sent a message, read to all troops, on the eve of the Normandy D-day landings:

‘…To us is given the honour of striking a blow for freedom which will live in history; and in the better days that lie ahead men will speak with pride of our doings…

I want every soldier to know that I have complete confidence in the successful outcome of the operations that we are now about to begin. With stout hearts, and with enthusiasm for the contest, let us go forward to victory.’

We can work it out!

Personal, musing… Working it out is part of my everyday life: the sudoku, a gardening task, organising a busy schedule…

St Paul said, ‘Continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling, for it is God who works in you to will and to act in order to fulfil his good purpose.’ Working faith out is to be taken seriously… but God is with us.

The Beatles’ final word:

‘Life is very short
And there’s no time
For fussing and fighting, my friend…
We can work it out’

  1. Malcolm, your words and wisdom are always on “time”. We can work it out! Life is about working things out. What a day in history. This morning as I spent much time thinking, praying, and wondering …do our young people think our world is worth fighting for? Freedom? Is it worth “working it out?” Thank you, God, you work out all things for our good!

I’m glad you’re doing well. All of us appreciate you!

    1. I think the questions you are asking, Karla are questions for all of us – not just young people… but you’re right – before we can work it out there needs to be an initial desire… and sadly, too often that desire isn’t there!
