I love reading our local papers. They’re such a wonderful mixture…
Bad… ‘Thieves stole three chainsaws after targeting a van…’ ‘Additional patrols have been launched in a seaside town after businesses and beach huts were broken into…’ ‘An East Suffolk woman… in possession of more than 60g of cannabis and £2,000 in cash has been given a suspended prison sentence…’ ‘Several injured in spate of crashes across Norfolk…’
‘Norwich City… Embarrassing… humiliating… a dire 4-0 semi-final.’

Sad… ‘It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dear friend… who passed away peacefully at her home… following a three-and-a-half year battle with pancreatic cancer, bravely borne and courageously fought. She will be remembered with love and great respect.’
‘Fishermen who lost their loves out at sea remembered at special service… People gathered at the South Pier in Lowestoft to remember all of the fishermen… as well as honouring their families…’

Glad… Norfolk couple share secret to 75 years of marriage… Cecil and Sylvia Miller first met at a dance at Loddon Town Hall in 1944. Five years later they tied the knot…’
‘Students have a once-in-a-lifetime learning experiences abroad. Students from East Coast College have travelled to Vietnam and Germany for special educational trips…’

Mad… ‘Duck races and rafting at Fakenham riverside festival… The schedule includes The Great Fakenham Duck Race, Cardboard Raft Races and the Giant Sponsored Duck Race, featuring ducks adorned and sponsored by businesses.’
‘Thousands take on muddy challenge… Thousands embraced the sun and overcame the mud during Cancer Research’s race for life at the Norfolk Showground…’

Tomorrow Christians across the world will celebrate Pentecost Sunday. At Easter we remembered the bad, sad and glad with Jesus’ death, burial and resurrection. Pentecost celebrates the coming of the Holy Spirit, with events so unexpected and spectacular that witnesses thought that Jesus’ followers were mad… ‘They’ve had too much wine!’
This ‘madness’ transformed the disciples then, and has continued to transform followers of Jesus for the last two thousand years…
