Changing Scenes…

…The Pirate Drama. Yesterday at The Seagull folks were preparing for the Pirate Show. Changing scenes will create a pirate ship, the sea, a treasure island… The publicity says:

Avast Ye Landlubbers! Shiver Me Timbers! It’s time to batten down the hatches, hoist the jolly roger, mop the deck and join us on this swashbuckling adventure! It’s all hands on deck and time to gather the best young scallywags around. Help us find the treasure, while singing some jolly songs in this brand new Pirate Show! Suitable for buccaneers aged 3 and up.

…The Family Drama: Families will come to the show: young children experiencing nursery, school for the first time, developing relationships, constantly learning; parents providing for changing children, balancing responsibilities, adapting to fresh challenges.

In our family… Granddaughter-Hannah has just celebrated her 19th birthday in her first year at university. Grandson-Luca will soon celebrate his 11th birthday; in September he’ll be at High School; I was chatting to Brother-Rod about our respective wills – considering the final scene!

…The Medical Drama… Yesterday I had a number of conversations with friends regarding changing scenes in their medical dramas: risky back surgery that could bring healing or paralysis… chemotherapy required following cancer surgery… tests following hepatitis diagnosis and partial recovery… return to work following a hysterectomy… treatment for haemorrhoids… recurring migraines…

Moving from one scene to the next with hope…

…Jesus’ Drama… Jesus tells the story: Scene 1 – Successful farmer: bountiful harvest. Scene 2 – Business plan: knock down existing barns, build bigger barns. Scene 3 – Retirement plan: enjoy life and relax. Scene 4 – God’s verdict: ‘You fool! This very night your life will be demanded from you.’

Jesus at his most challenging, enigmatic, disturbing…

…David’s Drama… David’s being pursued and fears for his life. He foams at the mouth and acts as if he’s insane. He writes Psalm 34 that’s paraphrased in 1696:

Through all the changing scenes of life,
  In trouble and in joy,
The praises of my God shall still
  My heart and tongue employ.
