It Is Coming

Yesterday…

…I walked along the beach in the early morning. The sun was rising in a clear sky over the sea; a new day is coming. Dawn is getting earlier; it was cold; there was snow on the beach. Cold days will pass; spring is coming.

…We went to Janet’s funeral. We’ve known Janet for many years. She’s been part of our church family – a good, active Christian lady with a great sense of humour. We sung the old hymn:

There’s a land that is fairer than day,
And by faith we can see it afar,
For the Father waits over the way
To prepare us a dwelling place there.

In the sweet by and by,
We shall meet on that beautiful shore;

Christians say ‘heaven is coming’. Janet’s already there.

…I went to The Seagull Theatre. At the start of the week the old seats had been taken out.  Renovation is coming. The new seats are now installed. It looks good.

I was there for our ‘Singing for Health’ group. We sung the old Proclaimers song:

But I would walk 500 miles
And I would walk 500 more
Just to be the man who walks a thousand miles
To fall down at your door.

There’s love, devotion and promises…

And when I come home, yes, I know I’m gonna be
I’m gonna be the man who comes back home with you.

My return? It is coming.

…I met my friend Ben who has three lovely young daughters. We talked about them getting older, growing up, leaving home. It’s difficult to imagine now, but it is coming!

Throughout the day my thought ‘it is coming’ focused on the certainties of life in an uncertain world…

At Janet’s funeral Amanda read Psalm 23. Certainties… The Lord is my shepherd… he leads me in green pastures… in the darkest valley I will fear no evil… ‘…your goodness and love… all the days of my life… the house of the Lord forever.’ It is coming.

  1. Two really good songs to go with your musing, Malcolm. Haven’t heard ‘In the Sweet By and By’ for years – good to be reminded of the oldies😊 That particular Proclaimers song gets that reaction not just in Scotland and the UK, but also in South Africa!!
