From Problem to Party?

Last night we watched a wonderful ‘Christmas Cabaret’ at ‘The Seagull’…

Thom, as ‘Dame Cherie Bakewell’, had a problem. She didn’t have a pantomime to perform in, so she invited us to her ‘party’. Joined by a number of professional Seagull friends we thoroughly enjoyed an evening of music and comedy.

Mark told ‘A Christmas Carol’, acting all of the parts; Josh, with help from Sian, did some conjuring, Stephen, Paul and Emily sung, there were party games and carols singing…

The audience left laughing and grateful that Dame Cherie’s problem was transformed into a party.

Lowestoft has again made the headlines. Homes along Christmas Lane and Noel Road in Oulton Broad have again been decorated with tens of thousands of sparkling Christmas lights, illuminated reindeer, angels and Christmas scenes. It creates a wonderful party atmosphere that many go to see and experience.

Last year they raised £1,700 for East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH); they hope to raise more this year. EACH supports families across the region providing expert nursing and end of life care for children and young people as well as providing counselling and support to bereaved family members. It’s an excellent local charity.

The Christmas Lane party… Families facing problems caused by life-threatening conditions. No instant transformation – the two continue side by side, each aware and appreciative of the other.

Yesterday I heard (again!) Mud’s ‘Lonely This Christmas’:

It’ll be lonely this Christmas
Without you to hold
It’ll be lonely this Christmas
Lonely and cold…

I paused, musing… those who’ve known the breakdown of significant relationships this year… friends who’ve been bereaved, friends still missing a loved one no longer with them; the loneliness brought to those whose dementia has deteriorated, and to lonely family members, suffering the diminishing of the character they love…

I thoroughly enjoyed last night’s entertainment, delighted that Dame Cherie could transform her problem into a party. I’m also reflecting on and praying for folks whose problems and pain cannot be transformed by a party.

      1. You’re welcome. I’m very sensitive to the needs of others due to my life journey. Often, I wish I could do more. Complacency can be comfortable for sure. I pray for all suffering 🙏🏻

      1. Thank you, Malcolm. It’s been a tough road. BUT for God! The surgeon removed my pancreas tail (with largest tumor)
        ,spleen, gallbladder, and 18 tumors off liver (a rare cancer). I’m taking one day at a time! I’ll continue treatments next month as I still have it in my bones. We don’t want it to metastasize back to liver. I’m so thankful to God to be here.
