I the Lord of Sea and Sky

I, the Lord of sea and sky,
I have heard My people cry.
All who dwell in dark and sin,
My hand will save.
I who made the stars of night,
I will make their darkness bright.
Who will bear My light to them?
Whom shall I send?

This last week has constantly reminded us that we live in a suffering world. We’ve seen images of wars, floods, disasters, and pain. In our neighbourhood we see broken families, anxiety and depression, sickness and pain.

This song reminds us that our creator God sees and hears the suffering. He is aware.

I, the Lord of snow and rain,
I have born my peoples pain.
I have wept for love of them, They turn away.
I will break their hearts of stone,
Give them hearts for love alone.
I will speak My word to them,
Whom shall I send?

The creator God is more than just an observer, an unmoved audience, He is emotionally involved, feeling the pain, carrying the burden, allowing His compassionate heart to be broken.

He longs to change His people’s hard, care-less, self-centred hearts into soft, care-full, responsive hearts.

I, the Lord of wind and flame,
I will tend the poor and lame.
I will set a feast for them,
My hand will save
Finest bread I will provide,
Till their hearts be satisfied.
I will give My life to them,
Whom shall I send?

This creator God isn’t just emotionally involved, He’s practically involved, providing, supplying, giving everything he has.

He does it through his agents his ambassadors, his representatives. We hear the words from the ancient stories of Samuel and Isaiah… calling them personally.

I listen. I question. I make myself available. Willingly. The creator God’s awareness becomes my awareness; His involvement, becomes my involvement; His compassion becomes my compassion; His provision becomes my provision.

Here I am Lord, Is it I Lord?
I have heard You calling in the night.
I will go Lord, if You lead me.
I will hold Your people in my heart
