On Saturday we learnt of Sir Bobby Charlton’s death. Many tributes have been paid. We’ve remembered one of greatest sportsman to play football for Manchester United and England.
We celebrate his goal scoring achievements, his footballing successes. Sir Bobby was a hero to many in Manchester, the United Kingdom and around the world.
Above all Sir Bobby was a gentleman. Humble, a man of integrity, respected by all. He left an example that all can learn from.

It’s the sixtieth anniversary of the Bristol Bus Boycott. We remember: in 1963 the Bristol Omnibus Company refused to employ Black or Asian bus crews…
We celebrate those West Indian men who highlighted the issue, black and white Bristolians who boycotted the bus company, students, politicians and sportsmen who supported the cause and eventually brought change…
We learn… There is still widespread prejudice and discrimination regarding, race, religion, gender… We still need brave, principled, caring people… standing for the good, the right and the just… bringing change…

Yesterday we remembered that it’s fifty years since our church building opened in 1973. From small beginnings in 1813… some remember the previous building in the town centre.
We celebrate many good memories… events that have happened… people who have served… lives that have been influenced and changed… our God who has been faithful through it all.
We learn from… successes and good times… mistakes and failures… times when God has felt close and our faith has been strong… times when we’ve messed up and got it wrong.

This morning I’m musing on ‘…the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God.’
I’m remembering particular personal troubles… celebrating my faithful ‘Father of compassion and God of all comfort’ who has been with me through them all… seeking to learn lessons from them, so that I can help others going through tough times.
