Grand-daughter Hannah had joined her university volleyball team. A picture of her with a bunch of other girls proves it. We were delighted to learn that in her first game of the season she received an ‘honourable mention’ – ‘Hannah used her initiative in the game and won us multiple points.’
An honourable mention.

Our friend Andrea posted yesterday: Extremely proud of my Laurence! FDA in Creative Arts for Well Being! Now onto a BA in Applied Care Practice for Mental Health! There is no stopping him! Whilst studying he has also held down 2 jobs… Off out tonight to celebrate! This was followed by deserved words of congratulations from many folks…
Sounds to me like another honourable mention.

Nephew Joel works for a French publishing company. He has just returned from a conference in Switzerland. He was talking about a Bible that his company publishes. It sounds like it should be an honourable mention…
It was the end of the conference. He was weary of speaking in English, his second language. This particular edition is ‘Bible du Semeur’ – the ‘Sower Bible’ – referring to Jesus’ story about the sower and his seed. Unfortunately, in his tiredness he described it as the ‘Sewer Bible’…
Not such an honourable mention.

We went to see brother Chris’s grave yesterday. I remembered his funeral and thanksgiving service last year… hundreds attending… friends and family telling stories, remembering him with warmth and gratitude… His certain belief in heaven… Jesus’ words quoted, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant’.
An honourable mention.

Musing… Hannah and Laurence… good people doing good things deserving an honourable mention…
Jesus’ story of the Sower… Some seed fell on good soil… that Jesus says is the ‘man who hears the word and understands it. He produces a crop…’ He deserves an honourable mention…
Brother Chris, no longer with us physically, but in many memories, still receiving an honourable mention… leading to the most honourable mention, from the God whom he honoured throughout his life.
Congratulations all! Thank you for sharing such happy news that encourages others to see honorable mentions in their daily encounters with others. 🙂

It’s good to recognise those that do well, Nancy.

Malcolm, I actually like your nephew’s slip of the tongue, “Sewer Bible,” because THAT’s precisely what our Savior Jesus Christ DID when He emptied Himself to become like all of us in every way except for sin in order to save us from the cesspool that we had made of this wonderful Life He first gave us and now gives us back again once we believe in Him!

That’s a great perspective, Majik. Jesus – the one who entered the sewer to save us from it… Thanks for the idea

These days with every headline we read, it’s getting more and more clear that this world is NOT our home. https://youtu.be/WtrpvkWigmw?si=gka5_BHvIY5_rnj3

I’m still smiling at the not so honorable mention. Sorry for the loss of your brother, Malcolm. Beautiful post.

I’m still smiling too, Wynne. We all say strange things when we are tired!

Reading your post makes me glad life isn’t truly like most “reality” shows. Not everybody wins. A slip of the tongue implies an opposite meeting. There are lots of weddings, but also lots of funerals. Ok, there’s no wedding in this post, but there’s plenty of bitter, sweet, and somewhere in between. And that’s real life. What keeps me reading, Malcolm, is the fact that you find a valuable perspective in it all.

My experience is, like yours David, a mixture of the bitter, sweet and bits in between…. And knowing that God is there in all of them…
