I do not know what lies ahead,
the way I cannot see;
yet one stands near to be my guide;
he’ll show the way to me.
Songs of all sorts have always been an important part of my life. As a teenager I sung this with other students, (102 in the old Youth Praise!), played it on my guitar… I sung with enthusiasm; I meant it. My whole life was before me; I’d soon be married, have my first teaching job; we’d buy our first house…
Entrusting my life to God was an important, intentional decision.
I do not know how many days
of life are mine to spend;
but one who knows and cares for me
will keep me to the end.
Fifty-five years later I look back and see that God has been with us. He’s cared for us and kept us through our marriage, through good times and tough times; He’s given us friends, family… good people to share our lives with; He’s faithfully, caringly guided us through, homes, jobs, churches…
Entrusting our lives to God has continued to be an ongoing intentional decision.
I do not know the course ahead,
what joys and griefs are there;
but one is near who fully knows;
I’ll trust his loving care.
I look forward. The future is increasingly uncertain. Friends my age are living with cancer, heart conditions, dementia, bereavement, sadness, pain… Sometimes I find the God who has planned everything difficult to understand. Bad things happen to good people.
Facing my unknown tomorrows isn’t always comfortable. I continue to confidently, intentionally entrust my life to God, to be with me and guide me… the God of problems and miracles who holds my future.
I know who holds the future,
and he’ll guide me with his hand.
With God things don’t just happen;
everything by him is planned.
So as I face tomorrow
with its problems large and small,
I’ll trust the God of miracles,
give to him my all.

Your testimony of faith was heartwarming, Malcolm. Thank you for sharing it. 🙂

Thanks, Nancy. As I was writing I was aware of the importance of getting the balance right between the me-bit of telling my story, and the God-bit of who He is and what He’s done…

Malcolm, I first started writing when our old church had a message board with the title, “Ways To Find Jesus Captivating,” and I couldn’t stop contributing, and with now three blogs of my own, I find that I still can’t stop writing about Him. I also used to worry that there was too much of me in the stories that I wrote and not enough about Jesus until a very wise Christian friend of ours told me that because Jesus’ Life infuses my own, He will always be at the center of any story I tell, and she was right.

Your Christian friend was wise, Majik. I like it that Jesus ‘will always be at the centre of any story I tell.’ I think the challenge for me is that it must be up-to-date, and real, not what other people say or expect me to say.

Youth Praise Books, that brings back a few memories !!! Some Sunday evenings after the service, singing several songs from Youth Praise. Green Book One, and Orange Book Two, if I remember correctly.
The song you refer too, would have had to think a little to remember all the verses, but not so the chorus. One which often comes to mind at home or when out driving in the car etc. The song may be a little dated now, but as you say, not so the words. Words of Encouragement, Comfort, etc., for Everyone, whatever our age or situations.

It’s many years since I sung it, Keith, but the words are good – as you say, whatever our age or situation. It’s been good to remember it.

That’s not a problem for me, Malcolm.
I almost never say what other people say or expect me to say! :v
