How Far Would You Go?

Yesterday…

…Brentford striker Ivan Toney posted: ‘I didn’t come this far to only come this far.’

Toney was handed an eight-month ban from football for breaching betting rules in May. Yesterday reports stated that he’s started training so that he can return to action in January.

…I watched two excellent new plays…

Lizzie Martin describes her ‘Untying The Knot’:

‘How far would you go to avoid an arranged marriage? With superstitious parents, a horrible ‘fiancé’ and a wedding fast approaching, new found friends Cass and Alex pose as long lost lovers to avoid such a fate, and ruin the plans with wit, luck and turn it into a farce.’

…I read Joel Toombs article: ‘Conversation is key to parenting, but how do you create the time and place?’ How far would you go?

He tells of his own teenage daughter: ‘Last night I got out of bed at gone midnight, to pick her up from the station. Of course, I did this just out of love, but I also knew this could be an excellent opportunity to get some non-intense one to one time with her – well worth giving up sleep for…’ He described the valuable, meaningful, father-daughter conversation…

This morning I read of Jesus’ arrest and trial… Judas arranging Jesus’ arrest… Peter breaking his promise, denying being a Jesus follower… Barabbas the death-sentenced terrorist… Pilate battling between his conscience and his political instincts… Jesus, determined, dignified continuing… completing his course, going the distance …

By their words and actions each character answers ‘How far would you go?’

How far would you go?…

Ivan Toney’s four months training, Cass and Alex humorous lies and deception, Joel Toombs late night inconvenience… Judas, Peter, Barrabas, Pilate, Jesus…

Bible Musing… Ruth’s unwavering ‘where you go, I will go’ loyalty to her mother-in-law, Naomi, makes her leave home… Joshua’s knowledge of his God’s strength gives him courage in an unknown future… Paul goes the distance – fighting the good fight, finishing the course.

  1. This is pertinent to my life as a rookie school administrator. Completing the mission often means getting one’s hands dirty. It’s difficult to lead well it you can’t be inconvenienced. In fact, I wrote about this same subject on my blog today. How far will you go to read it?😊 God Bless.

    1. Thanks, David. I did read your blog – thanks for your reminder… that running on half full is OK. I guess the words of the old hymn, ‘strength for today and bright hope for tomorrow’ is about how full we need to be – physically, mentally and spiritually.

  2. I’ll go as far as God calls me, Malcolm! Through it all, every up and down and messy circumstance, his unwavering love has led me to HIM and HIM alone! Thank you for sharing!
