Give Me Strength

Dear Lord, give me strength to carry on

This old Eric Clapton Song has recently become a reassuring friend, a heartfelt prayer…

When I’m just about coping with life, carrying out my daily duties and responsibilities, but feel I’m close to the edge… I’ve given it my best shot and my best shot isn’t good enough… I’ve done all I can but my achievements seem insignificant.

When I’m weary, weak and worn out I say:

Dear Lord, give me strength to carry on

When I’m anxious about my health, awaiting the results of tests, hoping for the best but fearing the worst…

When relationships are difficult… I’ve worked so hard at them, trying to say and do the right thing. When friendships are fragile and family are frustrating…

My home may be out on the highway
Lord, I’ve done so much wrong
But please, give me strength to carry on

When I feel life’s going OK. When relationships are good, gratitude is easy… When friends have complemented me on a job well done. The sun’s shining, I’m smiling and had a good day.

Dear Lord, give me strength to carry on

For those times when the battles inside my head are at their worst. I put myself under pressure to be the person I long to be, but find myself to be a disappointment to myself and others.

For those battles I fight daily but so frequently lose. Those habits and addictions that come back to haunt me. For those times when I feel like giving up…

Dear Lord, give me strength to carry on

I’m learning that in my vulnerability there can be confidence, in weakness there can be hope. In humbly asking, I discover the Dear Lord who, caring about and involved in the detail of my daily life, gives me the strength to carry on.

My home may be out on the highway
Lord, I’ve done so much wrong
But please, give me strength to carry on
