William, Rose, Adam & Lewis…

Four news stories yesterday:

…Prince William launched ‘Homewards’… a £3million homelessness scheme that’s a ‘legacy’ to his mother Princess Diana. It will focus on families living in temporary accommodation such as hostels and shelters…  get people the help and support they need before they lose their homes:

“I firmly believe that by working together it is possible to make homelessness rare, brief, and unrepeated...’

…Rose Ayling-Ellis examined the challenges faced by deaf people… Thedeaf actor, former Eastender, Strictly Come Dancing winner, featured in her BBC1 documentary ‘Signs For Change’:

‘I want to let the hearing audience know what it’s like to be deaf. I want deaf people to enjoy the documentary, of course, but I really wanted to use it as an opportunity to educate. It’s vital that there’s more representation of deaf people and deaf culture in the mainstream media…’

… Adam Peaty struggles with his mental health… The British swimmer,winner of two Tokyo Olympic gold medals, talked about his split from the mother of his young son, his alcohol misuse, depression and ADHD diagnosis.

His newfound faith in God has helped; he’s started going to church every Sunday: ‘It’s about being a better person. Not only being a better athlete and fulfilling my gift, but also being a better dad for George…’

Musician Lewis Capaldi announced a break from touring… ‘for the foreseeable future’ .

There’s talk about his Tourette’s syndrome, mental health struggles, crippling anxiety, worsening tics… We saw emotional scenes of him struggling to finish his Glastonbury set on Saturday – prompting the audience to take over the singing.

This extended break will enable him to spend ‘much more time getting my mental and physical health in order…’

William, Rose, Adam, Lewis: four famous people raising public awareness on important issues.

Musing… reading Amos in my Bible… talking a lot about ‘justice’ and ‘righteousness’… What does ‘justice and righteousness’ look like for ordinary people with such social, physical and mental disadvantages? What’s my response?
