My blog’s usually a reflection on yesterday – the funny story, unusual situation… ‘A-Ha!’ moment, ‘Oh-No’ event… what happened, what I learnt, where I saw my God… Yesterday – nothing! It was Mundane Monday.
In my weekly prayer walk I pass a boating-lake. It’s my trigger to pray for ‘those who would walk on water’ – those who have a dream for something amazing. Yesterday there was no exciting drama, no-one achieved greatness, no-one walked on water… Mundane Monday.

I’m reading ‘Robinson Crusoe’… I’ve never read it before… I discovered it was written over 300 years ago! After various adventures, Crusoe’s shipwrecked on an island:
‘But a certain stupidity of soul, without desire of good or conscious of evil, had entirely overwhelmed me, and I was all the most hardened, unthinking wicked creature among our common sailors can be supposed to be, not having the least sense, either of the fear of God in danger or of thankfulness to God in deliverance.’
For me yesterday, like Crusoe, there was no deep spiritual awakening or awareness, no danger or deliverance… Mundane Monday.
Don’t misunderstand me: yesterday was a good day… I met lovely people… laughed, talked, listened… enjoyed our garden, cut the grass… saw the sunshine and the sea… Much I could and should have been grateful for. But it felt like Mundane Monday.

I looked out of the window. A family of sparrows were hopping around, feeding under our bird-feeders. My Mundane Monday felt about as significant as my sparrow family picnic…
And that was my ‘A-ha’ moment… Jesus words: ‘Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?’
For the sparrows their family picnic was significant; mum and dad were good parents, babies learnt survival skills. My ordinary, mundane conversations, may not feel significant, but my heavenly Father is involved and says I’m valuable… on a Mundane Monday.

“… my heavenly Father is involved and says I’m valuable on a Mundane Monday …” Amen Malcolm! … and every Monday through Sunday thereafter until He calls us home brother. Looking forward to meeting you with our Savior there brother.

You’re right Fred! It will be good to meet with you. I like the idea of ‘calling home’. My Mum used to ‘call us home’ when we were kids – because it was feeding time!!

How beautiful! Mundane Monday ~what a wonderful reminder of our worth! I’m singing “Consider the Lilies “ in my head! Just as I watch the sparrows and birds,…he cares so much for us! 🎶 you’re a gifted writer!

Thanks Karla. I just need to put things back into order, see things in perspective. I sense from your writing, Karla, that seeing tough times realistically but positively requires a similar order and perspective, that deepens faith in our God.
