Right Person, Right Thing, Right Time, Right Place

Good friends Barry and Bridget came to stay. In the middle of the night a shadowy figure entered our bedroom.

Me: I think you’re in the wrong room.

Barry: What?

Barry tried to get into our bed!

Me: I think you’re in the wrong room!

Barry: Eh?… OK

Barry’s shadowy figure left the room.

Barry’s night-time bathroom visit… right thing, right time, right place…  A confused and befuddled Barry entering our bedroom, sharing our bed… definitely the wrong person in the wrong place!!

Yesterday morning there was a knock at our door… On our doorstep were two men.

Man: ‘We’ve come to collect a summer house.’

Me: ‘You’re welcome to collect a summer house, but I haven’t got one.’

Man: ‘This is number 4?’

Me: ‘Yes. But I still don’t have a summer house.’

Man: ‘Let me check… Oh… It’s number 8 we need. Sorry!’

The right men, the right time, doing the right thing… but in the wrong place.

Yesterday we said ‘Goodbye’ to Imogen.

Imogen first came to ‘The Seagull Theatre’ aged 12; she’s performed in many shows; she’s assisted and choreographed; she’s been to uni, and returned from uni; she’s directed, organised and led; she’s run amazing groups – youth theatre, musical theatre, ‘Squawk’, ‘Top Cats’, ‘Chair Exercise’…

Imogen now has a new job… For many years she has been the right person, doing the right thing, at the right time, in the right place. Now she’s decided isn’t; she’s moving on.

Musing on ancient wisdom…

‘If you do away with the yoke of oppression… if you spend yourselves in behalf of the hungry and satisfy the needs of the oppressed, then your light will rise in the darkness… The Lord will guide you always; he will satisfy your needs…’

There is a time for everything and a season for every activity under heaven…’

So today I’m seeking the wisdom to be the right person, in the right place, doing the right thing, at the right time.

  1. Once when our daughter was recovering from septic shock in ICU, two orderlies tried to take her (and all the machinery connected to her) in her bed down to an operating room to remove a kidney. We stopped them. Wrong floor, right room on their chart. watchful parents probably to this day.

  2. When you start to think about it, I think there are lots of examples where things like this happen – I had an aunt and uncle turn up a day late for my wedding 🤦‍♀️
It is a good reminder to us to stop and think about what we’re doing and where we want to be
