Lead Me, Guide Me

Lead me oh Lord, won’t you lead me

Sometimes life seems to get very complicated; I need a simple prayer to focus…

I am tired and I need thy strength and power
To guide me over my darkest hour
For just open my eyes that I may see
Lead me oh Lord, won’t you lead me

Sometimes I want to be strong, trust my judgement, make good decisions… I look back on past mistakes, I look at my current weakness, I look at an uncertain future… I feel vulnerable.

I need strength, guidance, open eyes…My simple prayer is personal, honest and direct.

Lead me, guide me along the way
For if you lead me I cannot stray
Or just open my eyes that I may see
Lead me oh lord, won’t you lead me

This morning I’m reading Ecclesiastes. The Teacher is searching for meaning and purpose in an uncertain life. He challenges conventional wisdom. Good things don’t always happen to good people; the strong don’t always win; the clever don’t always come up with the right answers…

I need guidance and reassurance, in my uncertain life in an uncertain world.

I am lost if you take your hand from me
I am blind without thy light to see

Lord just always let me thy servant be
Lead me oh Lord, won’t you lead me

I continue to pray that the God who has walked alongside me each step of my life up to today will continue to walk with me, leading, guiding, providing my ‘daily bread’. I live my life a day at a time, walking a step at a time. If I look too far ahead I may become fearful or anxious…

As He leads me and guides me, I gain strength, comfort, reassurance and hope.
