Yesterday…
…Over 48,000 ran in the London Marathon. Serious athletes wanted to run a good time… Some ran for charities, dressed as teddy-bears, trees, super-heroes, monsters…

Some ran because of very real monsters in their lives… the cancer that had taken a friend or family member… the life limiting illness that has been diagnosed… the accident that had removed part of their life…

…Jonathan posted a picture of his Eiffel Tower: ‘It’s taken a while… But finally managed to get if finished.’
There was a lovely picture of Jonathan and his family by the actual Eiffel Tower… predictable and deserved congratulations… and the equally predictable ‘it’s a bit of an eye full’.

Remembering the picture of Godzilla by the Eiffel Tower I imagined Godzilla breaking into Jonathan’s home, destroying the model…

…It was St George’s Day Tradition says that George was a soldier in the Roman army… rather than deny his Christian faith he was tortured and beheaded…
Legend tells of St George and the dragon… Villagers had sacrificed all of their sheep to a terrorising dragon… they were about to sacrifice the princess… George kills the dragon and saves the village. It’s a story of good defeating evil…

…In church Jim reminded us of David and Goliath. The great impressive nine-foot giant that was killed, against the odds, by an apparently insignificant teenager.
Jim talked about the giants that we might face… anxiety, disasters… and how the transforming gospel of Jesus can give us victory over them.

…Musing on monsters I live with, worry about…
- Some, like those of London Marathon Runners, are real… I need to be strong and live with them…
- Some, like Godzilla are fictional… I’ve just made them up and should laugh at them.
- Some, like George’s dragon, are to be fought against… my good fighting against my evil.
- Some, like David’s Goliath, are against the odds… but can be defeated with help from my God.
I need wisdom to discern which monster is which…
