The Plot Unfolds…

Last night we saw ‘Wish You Were Dead’, a stage adaption of the Peter James mystery, featuring actors George Rainsford and Clive Mantle whom we’ve seen on TV.

Detective Roy Grace is holiday in France with his wife Cleo and their three-month-old baby. They arrive at a creepy chateau, tired and exhausted after a wet drive across rural France…

The plot unfolds – There’s good guys and bad guys, humour and violence; parts are dark, others are almost pantomime. After a number of unexpected twists and turns there’s final resolution. Grace and the good guys win; the bad guys are arrested…

This morning I’ve read the unusual story of Samson… It’s familiar to me.

Mr and Mrs Manoah can’t have children. Following an announcement by an angel, Samson is born. ‘He grew and the Lord blessed him, and the Spirit of the Lord began to stir him’. (Judges 13:24-25) All good.

The plot unfolds. Good turns bad. Samson’s life is full of anger, murder, revenge; he uses his super-natural strength for strange purposes; women get him into trouble… Why, why, why Delilah? Samson’s repeatedly deceived and humiliated… there’s final resolution as he destroys a temple and kills thousands of his enemies.

Musing…

Ukraine… I walked along the beach early this morning. A group of people were standing silently around a Ukrainian flag and some candles, remembering that a year ago today Russia invaded Ukraine…

Friends… One is facing a court case; allegations have been made against him… Another is awaiting a call from the hospital for heart surgery… Another has a son who’s planning his wedding in September…

Me… recalling the verse of the old hymn…

I know not what of good or ill
May be reserved for me,
Of weary ways or golden days,
Before His face I see.

Life’s unfolding plots… unexpected twists and turns… uncertainty regarding final resolution…

My faith points to the one I trust to be with me through life’s unfolding plot to its final resolution.

  1. Forgive me for not reading your musing beyond the first line today, as Janet and I are going to see it this evening, after tea at Sharon’s first.
