Somewhere That’s Green

Last night we saw a local youth theatre performing ‘Little Shop of Horrors’ – an excellent production. In ‘Somewhere that’s green’, Audrey, a poor girl with an abusive boyfriend, working in a rundown shop, dreams of being happily married…

Far from Skid Row
I dream we’ll go
somewhere that’s green.

Many musicals include a song about a dream, an ideal world…

Dorothy, in ‘The Wizard of Oz’, sings, ‘Somewhere over the rainbow… the dreams that you dare to dream really do come true.’ Maria in ‘Sound of Music’ sings, ‘Climb every mountain… till you find your dream’.

West Side Story’s ‘Somewhere’, Les Misérables’ ‘Do you hear the people sing’… all say…  Somewhere there’s a better world where all wrongs will be put right… Somewhere that’s green.

Earlier this week many celebrated Diwali. Our new Prime Minister Rishi Sunak was shown lighting candles…

Yesterday, reading Emmanuel Gill: ‘The word Diwali… means “row of lights”… homes and temples are illuminated, fireworks are lit…

The …significance of Diwali varies from Hindus to Sikhs and Jains… But all who celebrate Diwali agree that the underlying common theme… is the victory of good over evil, light over darkness, peace over war and truth over falsehood.’

Somewhere that’s green.

Musing…

…The Biblical narrative’s conclusion: ‘God’s home is now among his people… He will wipe every tear from their eyes, and there will be no more death or sorrow or crying or pain. All these things are gone forever.’  (Revelation 21:3-4) One day… Somewhere that’s green.

…Audrey never reached ‘Somewhere that’s green’ because the plant ate her!

…Jesus’ words: ‘I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never be hungry again. Whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.’ ‘Somewhere that’s green’ isn’t a dream of the future but somewhere we can live now.
