What’s Next?

Yesterday at Men’s Shed… We’d been given a load of pallets. Yesterday a group of us were pulling them apart – extracting nails, stacking timber…

What’s next? Some wood will be used use it to make bird boxes or hedgehog boxes for a local wildlife group; some will be transformed into fancy planters – possible Christmas presents; rough and damaged wood will be firewood in wood-burners…

Faye’s a talented young footballer. Her coach has referred her for ‘The FA Women’s England Talent Pathway Player Referral Process’. Yesterday, together with her Mum, she filled out a form. Mum writes: ‘She is excited and nervous. She knows there are a lot of girls after the same dream as her.’

Faye plays football… her coach spots talent… he makes a recommendation… Faye and Mum fill in a form… What’s next? Mum and some of her friends are praying…

Musing… Elton John’s ‘Circle of Life’ – famous through ‘The Lion King’:

In the circle of life
It’s the wheel of fortune
It’s the leap of faith
It’s the band of hope
Till we find our place
On the path unwinding
In the circle, the circle of life

What’s next? It’s often uncertain – a leap of faith, a band of hope. It is for Faye.

Some of us fall by the wayside
And some of us soar to the stars
And some of us sail through our troubles
And some have to live with the scars

Musing… friends in each of these categories – falling, soaring, sailing through, and scarred…

On Sunday we sung Aaron’s blessing: ‘The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make his face shine on you and be gracious to you; the Lord turn his face toward you and give you peace.’ (Numbers 6:24-26)

The Jewish nation have left Egypt. They’re about to journey to an unknown destination. What’s next? This prayer is about asking for their God to be with them and bless them with his presence, protection and peace whatever came next.
