Running The Race

It was good to have our French family with us yesterday. Before they left niece-Sara went for a run along the sea-front. Sara enjoys running and goes running regularly.

Running 10K… blue sky and the Lowestoft seaside… I wished I was still fit enough to join her…

I met Chris last night. Chris is an running coach, an experienced athlete. We discussed the World Athletics Championships, the Commonwealth Games…

Chris trains friends in his running club; he’s able to see potential, suggest training schedules, run with and coach athletes of all abilities.

I walked with David as he was out with his dog yesterday. David’s in his 80s and doesn’t walk as easily as he used to, but with his dog he gets our every day, living each day as it comes.

David can’t run like Sara or Chris, but I’m always impressed by David’s positive approach to life, and his care helping his friends and neighbours…

My favourite news story this week has been the adventures of Clyde the giant African Tortoise.

Clyde escaped from a Norfolk pet shop on Sunday afternoon. The BBC reported:

‘Diane Akers, a passenger on the 11:22 train from Ely to Norwich, photographed the tortoise on the opposite track when her train came to a halt. “It was very large and filled a substantial area of the track,” she said…

A Greater Anglia spokeswoman said: “We are sorry for the disruption caused to customers between Norwich and Cambridge this afternoon. This was due to a very large, injured tortoise on the line near Harling Road. Network Rail attended and helped the animal. Services were able to run from 13.25.”’

Apparently Clyde’s recovering from his outing.

Musing…

…Sara, Chris, David, Clyde… skilled athletes, enthusiastic amateurs, non-athletes…

…‘Let us run with endurance the race God has set before us…’ (Hebrews 12:1) Doesn’t talk about speed but about perseverance…

…I run today’s section of my life’s race learning from Sarah’s enjoyment, Chris’ skill, David’s compassion, Clyde’s determination…
