Jesus, Strong And Kind

Jesus said that if I thirst
I should come to him
No one else can satisfy
I should come to him

Sometimes I need a strong song to inspire me… sometimes I’m helped by an emotional song that I can feel… a deep song that I can reflect on… a truth-song that will engage my intellect…

Jesus said if I am weak
I should come to him
No one else can be my strength
I should come to him

I love this song because it’s simple… no complex metaphor, or abstract theology. Through its simplicity it can be sung, felt, understood, believed… by a couple of people alone, young children in a school or worshiping adults in a church…

For the Lord is good and faithful
He will keep us day and night
We can always run to Jesus
Jesus, strong and kind

It’s unapologetically about Jesus – his character, love, strength and consistency. It’s the historical Jesus of the Bible story; it’s the ever-available, ever-present Jesus who cares for and relates to all ages, all situations today.

Jesus said that if I fear
I should come to him
No one else can be my shield
I should come to him

I come to this Jesus ‘just as I am’ – in my weakness, inadequacy, hypocrisy… with fears and anxieties. I don’t have to pretend or hide… No fuss or formula… I come vulnerable, exposed… but confident that this strong, kind Jesus will accept me and be to me what I need.

Jesus said if I am lost
He will come to me
And he showed me on that cross
He will come to me

I discover again and again that as I come to Him he comes to me… the strong, kind Shepherd searching for the lost sheep, the strong, kind Father welcoming home the lost son…

For the Lord is good and faithful
He will keep us day and night
We can always run to Jesus
Jesus, strong and kind.
