The Prayer

I pray you’ll be our eyes, and watch us where we go
And help us to be wise in times when we don’t know
Let this be our prayer, when we lose our way.

This morning… there are huge global needs – especially in Ukraine… friends have significant concerns… I have my personal needs. This song gives 3 prayers:

 1. Lead us to the place – a prayer for times when we lose our way.

I’m uncertain, insecure; I’ve lost sight of purpose and direction; I pray for God’s presence  bringing his wisdom and guidance to lead world leaders, friends, me…

I pray we ‘Il find your light, and hold it in our hearts
When stars go out each night,
Remind us where you are
Let this be our prayer, when shadows fill our day

2. Guide us with your grace – a prayer for times when shadows fill our day

Life’s dark with war, sickness, anxiety, uncertainty, bereavement; I pray for God’s light, bringing truth, justice, peace and clarity.

A world where pain and sorrow will be ended
And every heart that’s broken will be mended
And we’ll remember we are all God’s children
Reaching out to touch you
Reaching to the sky

The song’s middle section raises our hopes. We need to be idealistic in our hopes, not be satisfied with the mediocre or the compromise. God’s infinite power and compassion can and will end pain and sorrow…

We ask that life be kind, and watch us from above
We hope each soul will find another soul to love
Let this be our prayer, just like every child

3. Give us faith so we’ll be safe – a prayer of child-like trusting

In life’s complexity, prayer is simple both in method and content. We express our hopes and desires, putting them in safe, loving, powerful hands of the ever-watching, all-knowing God… with simple child-like trust.
