The Ghost of Christmas Present

It’s Christmas!

The second ghost, the ‘Ghost of Christmas Present’ takes Scrooge to his clerk, Bob Cratchit with his poor but happy family. Tiny Tim, their youngest, crippled son says the well-known words, ‘God bless us every one’.

Yesterday Mark cut my hair; due to new Covid restrictions Mark doesn’t know when his shop will re-open.

Last night I walked along the cold, windy seashore where waves broke relentlessly…

To Mark, and those whose waves beat relentlessly, ‘God bless us every one’.

The ghost takes Scrooge to his nephew Fred, playing party games with friends and relations, ‘…there is nothing in the world so irresistibly contagious as laughter and good-humour.’

I passed a family clutching presents. ‘Merry Christmas’ they called. I passed a Mum taking a small girl and several wrapped presents out of a car ‘Molly, What do you think Grandad will give you?’ she said excitedly…

To happy, excited families, Mum, Molly and Grandad, ‘God bless us every one’.

The ghost shows Scrooge people going to church ‘flocking through the streets in their best  clothes and gayest faces. Tiny Tim went with Bob Cratchit ‘…because he was a cripple, and it might be pleasant… to remember upon Christmas-day who made lame beggars walk and blind men see’

Yesterday my friend Bob continued his habit of over 50 years to ‘get  alone and  reflect on the Incarnation, and be like Mary and ‘ponder all  these things in my heart.’’

Many friends are missing Christmas services this year…

To Bob and all my would-be-church-going friends. ‘God bless us every one.’

We shall share Christmas with our daughter Jo’s family today; and to you, however this Christmas-day finds you…

God bless us… with Aaron’s ancient words: ‘The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make his face shine upon you and be gracious to you; the Lord turn his face towards you and give you peace.’ …every one
