Norwich City won 4-0 on Saturday – their first league game with David Wagner as their new manager. I listened to the match on the radio. We played well. After the match Wagner said, ‘We played in our style. The players have done fantastically with a lot of energy and aggression. We scored some wonderfulContinue reading “The First Step”

I Need Change
Our son Pete lives with us. In recent years his room’s become shabby. A couple of months ago we decided to act… Pete chose the colour of the paint and a new carpet. Last weekend we cleared his room. This week it’s been decorated. Yesterday the new carpet was fitted. There’s new curtains up andContinue reading “I Need Change”
Here Within These Walls
Last night we watched Sister Act in Norwich – an excellent show! Deloris Cartier, a loud, brash, night-club singer witnesses a murder. She’s taken, for her protection, to live in a convent… In this song she’s introduced to Mother Superior who explains the convent’s rules and philosophy. Outside, life’s a mess.No one’s pure of spiritContinue reading “Here Within These Walls”
George, Andrew, Bill, Judah & Their Women
Pele recently died… Many thought that Pele was the world’s greatest footballer; Pele regarded George Best as the greatest… George’s controversial playboy lifestyle was as famous as his legendary football skills. He once said: ‘I spent a lot of money on booze, birds, and fast cars. The rest I just squandered.’ The high publicity aroundContinue reading “George, Andrew, Bill, Judah & Their Women”
Getting What You Deserve
Norwich City have got a new manager. Recent results have been poor; Dean Smith’s been sacked and David Wagner appointed. It’s hoped that Norwich can ‘restart their season’ and ‘give the fans what they deserve.’ I’m not sure what Norwich fans ‘deserve’… I think some friends, fans of other football clubs, would have different opinionsContinue reading “Getting What You Deserve”
Complicated Families
I had conversations with two women yesterday. Both referred to ‘my ex-husband’, ‘the father of my children’, ‘my current partner’. Both are good people, good mothers; both are settled in their life and relationships. At times, however, their families are complicated. Last week I was chatting to a friend… he’s had two wives… he hasContinue reading “Complicated Families “
I Didn’t See That Coming
Isaac and Rebekah have twin sons, Esau and Jacob. Isaac’s very old and blind. He calls Esau, the elder son, for the deathbed blessing to transmit the family’s leadership and possessions to Esau. Jacob tricks blind Isaac and receives the blessing… Blind Isaac couldn’t see Jacob coming; Esau didn’t see Jacob’s deception coming. In 1970Continue reading “I Didn’t See That Coming”
I Don’t Know How To Love Him
I don’t know how to love him,What to do, how to move him.I’ve been changed, yes, really changed. In these past few days when I’ve seen myselfI seem like someone else. This song challenges me to consider the relationship that Mary Magdalene had with Jesus. It speaks of a love she couldn’t understand or analyse. ThisContinue reading “I Don’t Know How To Love Him”
Stationary At The Station
Yesterday we visited RSPB Titchwell Marsh Nature Reserve in North Norfolk. We saw and identified small birds in the woods, wading birds in the creeks, ducks on the lakes, seabirds on the sea-shore. My favourites were the Marsh Harriers that gave a fine flying display. We returned to the café for refreshment. There was thisContinue reading “Stationary At The Station”
